Description

Our Electronics/IED Defeat Hybrid course is a 5-day, hands-on training program specifically designed for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians. The course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the various components and techniques used in IEDs. The course is divided into two main sections: classroom training and scenario-based drills.
n
nThe first two days of the course serve as a refresher for basic electronics concepts and are focused on EOD-specific training for reverse engineering and understanding relevant EOD TTPs. The classroom training includes lectures and hands-on lab work to reinforce key concepts such as DC theory, resistors, capacitors, switches, and relays, diodes, transistors, MOSFETs, and SCRs. The lab portion of the course includes a multimeter tutorial, breadboarding of simple circuits, and demonstrations of voltage and current-controlled triggering circuits for IEDs.
n
nThe remaining three days of the course are focused on scenario-based drills designed to provide students with practical experience in real-world situations. The drills include both category A scenarios and scenarios that allow you to practice your skills with your EOD tools, and consist of both morning and afternoon sessions, providing students with the opportunity to apply the concepts and techniques they have learned in the classroom. The drills are designed to drive home the points from the classroom training.
n
nThis course is designed for EOD technicians and can accommodate up to 15 students. It provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively deal with IEDs in real-world situations.
n

n
nThe classroom portion is taught by an electronics technician and the scenarios are proctored by a Master EOD Technician.

Day 1: DC Theory (Resistors, Batteries, Capacitors and Switches)

n
nLecture:
n
nThe lecture is focused around the various passive components found in IEDs and the foundational concepts that explain their behavior in IED circuits. These concepts will also be related to EOD procedures by examining how DET Diagnostics and Ohm’s Law line up.
n

n
nLab:
n
nMultimeter tutorial.
nBreadboard simple circuits and test with supplied multimeter. Observe capacitor charging and voltages across open, closed and EOL switches.
nSolder breadboard leads to switches.
